China's first 10000 ton photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration project has been fully completed and put into operation

On August 30th, Sinopec announced that the Xinjiang Kuche Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project, the largest direct photovoltaic power generation project in China, had been fully completed and put into operation. With the completion of all supporting photovoltaic power stations and the realization of full capacity grid connection, the project can produce green hydrogen at full capacity. The 20000 tons of green hydrogen produced each year are all supplied to the nearby Tahe Refining and Chemical Company of Sinopec, which is used to replace natural gas used in refining and processing to produce hydrogen. The low-carbon development of modern oil processing and green hydrogen coupling is achieved, and the full completion and operation marks a breakthrough in the scale industrial application of green hydrogen in China.

Green hydrogen refining is seen as an important path for the chemical industry to achieve green transformation. Taking the Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project as an example, the green hydrogen produced by this project will replace natural gas from Tahe Refinery to produce hydrogen, use it as a raw material for hydrogenation reactions, and ultimately enter the oil products to achieve green refining products. The project can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485000 tons per year, marking the first large-scale application of green hydrogen refining. It has a significant demonstration effect on the large-scale utilization of green hydrogen by refining enterprises to achieve carbon reduction.
